By talking with the ombuds, you and the ombuds agree that the Ombuds Office will not disclose or keep records of individually identifiable information; the ombuds will not testify or participate in any formal proceeding; communications with the ombuds are privileged, and this privilege is held by the Ombuds Office and cannot be waived by others. This agreement fosters confidentiality and helps provide a safe and neutral place for discussing any concern.
Moreover, speaking to the Ombuds Office about a concern does not constitute legal “notice” to Âé¶¹´«Ã½. Anyone wishing to place the institution on notice may contact a supervisor or administrator, or invoke formal grievance procedures. Meeting with the Ombuds Office and/or the ombuds does not affect your ability to pursue formal complaints. The ombuds can help you find the appropriate person to speak to in order to request that Âé¶¹´«Ã½ take formal action, if that is the course of action that you choose to pursue. Important rights may be affected by the actual date when formal action is initiated and/or when Âé¶¹´«Ã½ is informed of alleged misconduct. The Ombuds Office can provide referral information about who to contact for anyone seeking to use administrative or formal grievance options.
