Â鶹´«Ã½ of New Jersey Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) Center seeks to expand the use of IGG as a tool for justice by facilitating its implementation in countries outside of the United States. To that end, we have formed a partnership with Sheffield Hallam University’s Institute for Law and Justice to provide education about investigative genetic genealogy and promote its use in the United Kingdom.

This partnership began in October of 2023 with a meeting in Sheffield to assess the current state of IGG implementation in the UK. Following this, three staff members from SHU’s criminology and policing departments took part in the Â鶹´«Ã½ IGG Certificate Program and the Â鶹´«Ã½ IGG Bootcamp, applying work to genuine unsolved cases in the United States as part of their IGG education.

In 2024, a lecture on IGG was given by David Gurney and Cairenn Binder at Sheffield Hallam University, providing students and interested parties in the UK with a baseline of knowledge about IGG.

In 2025 our partnership continues: Baroness Helena Kennedy, Labour member of the House of Lords and International human rights champion, will sponsor an event in Parliament for the provision of IGG education. This event will be co-led by staff members from Â鶹´«Ã½ IGG Center as well as Sheffield Hallam University.

In May of 2026, an event cohosted by Â鶹´«Ã½ of New Jersey Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center (RCNJ IGG) and will take place in Sydney, Australia. This event will build upon the knowledge of students and investigators who have studied investigative genetic genealogy, applying their newfound skills to a genuine, unsolved cold case.

This unique “bootcamp” event will take place at UTS from May 18-22, 2026. We are currently not soliciting further participants for the May 2026 event at this time, but will update this page when we are
