near-infinite forms it can take.<\/li>\n<li>Chemistry has a profound influence on our everyday lives, and chemical knowledge is central to our understanding of biological and environmental problems:\n<ul>\n<li>Chemicals are added to food and water for health, preservation, and taste<\/li>\n<li>Synthetic polymers are used in place of natural materials in furniture and clothing<\/li>\n<li>Major modes of transportation use chemical reactions to produce energy needed for motion.<\/li>\n<li>The human body manufactures hormones and enzymes that regulate the living process.<\/li>\n<li>Medicine cabinets are stocked with drugs whose chemistry affects the state of body and mind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Chemistry is truly pervasive in all aspects of our lives.<\/li>\n<li>The Chemistry Program at Â鶹´«Ã½ is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and students can receive an ACS certified degree if they select the required electives (see four year plan)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/four-year-2021-2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/347\/2021\/06\/2021-2022-Chemistry-Four-Year-Plan.pdf\">Four-Year Plan of Courses\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>BIOCHEMISTRY:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Bachelor\u2019s degree in biochemistry provides the essential background and training that can open a variety of career pathways for students upon graduation.<\/li>\n<li>The biochemistry major is excellent preparation for professional studies in the health sciences:\n<ul>\n<li>For secondary school teaching in the biological and physical sciences<\/li>\n<li>For research in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry<\/li>\n<li>For technical writing, sales, and service; and as the basis for graduate studies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The combination of chemistry, molecular biology, enzymology, and genetic engineering found in biochemistry provides the foundation to contribute to the rapidly expanding field of biotechnology.<\/li>\n<li>Graduating biochemistry majors have the opportunity to receive an ACS certified degree.<\/li>\n<li><a
