Campus Meadows

The first campus meadow was established in 2014 behind the Sharp Sustainability Education Center (SSEC).

Native wildflower meadows are a fantastic and sustainable alternative to turf.

Some of their benefits include:

  • Providing beautiful wildlife habitat
  • Supporting pollinator populations with tens of thousands of flowers
  • Only needing to be mowed once per year
  • Not needing any fertilizer or pesticides
  • Not needing to be watered after the first year

Originally supported by a USDA block grant to the NJ Beekeepers’ Association, our main meadow on campus has served as a model for other meadows that have since been established around the region. The campus meadows have been a great collaboration between facilities, faculty and students over the past several years.
