(MAHWAH, NJ) 鈥 鈥淎nn LePore: Mapping for Empathy in Four Dimensions,鈥 a one-person exhibition of maps, projected light and kinetic objects, opens in the Kresge Gallery in the Berrie Center on Wednesday, September 14 and continues through October 14. An opening reception will be held on September 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. with an artist鈥檚 talk at 6 p.m.

The pieces in the exhibition are related both by the use of projected light and ideas of 鈥榤apping鈥 used to tell stories and visualize data.

Selections from three bodies of work will be on display: 鈥淔light鈥 based on the historical fiction of Natalie Kinsey-Warnock; 鈥淒ue North,鈥 created during a residency at Frank Lloyd Wright鈥檚 Taliesin site; and 鈥淢apping in Four Dimensions,鈥 a work-in-progress that uses environmental data collected by scientists to create idiosyncratic maps.

LePore has exhibited nationally and internationally including events such as Digital Salon and the Free Biennial in New York City, and La Superette. Recent projects include 鈥淢etanoia,鈥澨 a three-story time-lapse projection of a chrysalis hatching on the outside of the Museo de las Casas Reales in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; 鈥淲ater Projector,鈥 an electronic device built to project water on the outside on the Pequannock Gate in Newark, New Jersey; 鈥淓xpanding Animation,鈥 an exhibition of animation and interactive work curated for the Pascal Gallery at 麻豆传媒; and 鈥淒ue North,鈥 a large-scale projected video in partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in Wisconsin.

She has been a New Leonardo artist (2003), and a Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation grant recipient (2002), and has completed residencies at Engine 27 Sound Space (2003) and the Taliesin Artist Residency Program (2006, 2007). In 2010-11, she was awarded a year-long residency at Gallery Aferro in Newark.

LePore is an Assistant Professor of 3D Design and Animation and teaches in the Art and Technology concentration at 麻豆传媒. She received her BFA from Alfred University and her MFA from the School of Visual Arts.

This project is supported in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 1 through 5 p.m. and Wednesdays 1 through 7 p.m. For more information, contact Sydney Jenkins at (201) 684-7147.
