{"id":1253,"date":"2016-09-09T15:46:56","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T19:46:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/international\/?page_id=1253"},"modified":"2022-08-11T10:25:27","modified_gmt":"2022-08-11T14:25:27","slug":"committees","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/international\/itzn\/committees\/","title":{"rendered":"Committees"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Roukema Center for International Education Committees<\/h3>\n<div id=\"tabs\"><a href=\"#\" title=\"View <strong>Internationalization<\/strong> Tab\" rel=\"t1451076190\" class=\"active\"><span><strong>Internationalization<\/strong><\/span><\/a><a href=\"#\" title=\"View <strong>International Programs<\/strong> Tab\" rel=\"t1451076191\"><span><strong>International Programs<\/strong><\/span><\/a><a href=\"#\" title=\"View <strong>International Program Scholarships<\/strong> Tab\" rel=\"t1451076192\"><span><strong>International Program Scholarships<\/strong><\/span><\/a><a href=\"#\" title=\"View <strong>International Risk Assessment<\/strong> Tab\" rel=\"t1451076193\"><span><strong>International Risk Assessment<\/strong><\/span><\/a><a href=\"#\" title=\"View <strong>International Students<\/strong> Tab\" rel=\"t1451076194\"><span><strong>International Students<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/div><div id=\"tab-content\"><div class=\"wrapper\"><div id=\"t1451076190\" title=\"<strong>Internationalization<\/strong>\" class=\"content active\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<h3>Committee Charge<\/h3>\n<p><em>The International Education Committee (IEC) is an advisory body to the Roukema Center for International Education (RCIE).\u00a0 It is charged to uphold the mission for international education at Â鶹´«Ã½, to &#8220;. create a holistic educational experience that enables our students to become literate, intentional and empowered global citizens,&#8221; and to enhance commitment to and help realize the vision of the &#8220;four pillars&#8221; of international, intercultural, interdisciplinary, and experiential learning at Ramapo.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Consistent with the overall College mission and Strategic Plan, the IEC recommends both immediate and long-term directions for the growth and development of international education at Ramapo and advises on fostering a campus climate conducive to an interest in international affairs and international education.\u00a0 The IEC shall foster collaboration with the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs Units, the Cahill Center for Experiential Education, the Center for Student Involvement, campus diversity structures, and Enrollment Management. According to shifts in college needs, interests, and resources, other units may be engaged.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Expectations of the IEC include, ensuring:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><em>Strategic planning for internationalization;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>objectives and means for international student and scholar recruitment; <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>international events, awards\/recognitions, and honor society; <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>outreach and community engagement; <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>initiation and\/or elaboration of international linkages; <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>new programmatic initiatives; and<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>integration of study abroad and off-campus programs in a cohesive scheme of international and multicultural education, consistent with academic units&#8217; learning goals.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div id=\"t1451076191\" title=\"<strong>International Programs<\/strong>\" class=\"content\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<h3>Committee Charge<\/h3>\n<p><em>The International Program Committee advises on matters pertaining to credit-bearing study abroad and domestic off-campus programs, and some non-credit international and off-campus student programs. (&#8220;Study Abroad&#8221; is used as an inclusive shorthand.) The advisory purview includes ensuring:\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><em>the study abroad programs are integrated in the curriculum and have academic merit;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>that a substantive and geographic complement of programs is offered; <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>a variety of language-intensive and Anglophone courses and programs; <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>optimal &#8220;fit&#8221; of provider programs to the Ramapo curriculum; <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>maximizing breadth, quality, and accessibility of programs on offer; and<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>promotion of study abroad among students and colleagues.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>The International Program Committee reviews proposals for courses or programs made by faculty on the RCIE Program Proposal Form.\u00a0 Proposals are approved by the author(s)&#8217;s convening group(s) and dean(s) before they reach the Committee.\u00a0 The Committee&#8217;s review results in a positive or negative recommendation to the Academic Review Committee (ARC), or a recommendation to the author(s) to revise the course or program.\u00a0 Committee members should be mindful of limitations and opportunities that might pertain to the course venue. Revision might be recommended, for example, in order to adapt pedagogy to site, enhance experiential components, or adjust operational elements of the program or program infrastructure, typically to assure appropriate management of risk, cost effectiveness, and compliance with professional &#8220;best practice.&#8221; Committee members shall recuse themselves from decisions regarding proposals that they have written. Furthermore, it is ethically incumbent upon all Committee members to make full disclosures with regard to potential conflicts of interest between themselves and the applicant. In some instances the Committee may recommend recusal.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In addition, the committee will review any student Petition Applications for student participation in a program not currently on the list of Approved International Programs by Â鶹´«Ã½, according to the criteria listed above.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Program providers will be selected by RCIE and approved by the International Program Committee for recommendation to the Provost, according to professional best practice as codified by the Forum on Education Abroad (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forumea.org\">www.forumea.org<\/a>) and NAFSA (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nafsa.org\">www.nafsa.org<\/a>).\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Committee Reports<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/international\/itzn\/committees\/ay18-19-annual-report_final\/\">AY18-19 Annual Report &#8211; International Programs Committee<\/a> (*pdf)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div id=\"t1451076192\" title=\"<strong>International Program Scholarships<\/strong>\" class=\"content\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<h3>Committee Charge<\/h3>\n<p><em>To ensure a fair, just and equitable process and distribution of scholarship funds to eligible Ramapo students in their pursuit of international education opportunities. The committee&#8217;s functions include:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><em>Develop eligibility criteria for scholarship candidates<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Review scholarship applications<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Determine distribution amounts<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Create reporting process for scholarship distribution<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Research and support the advertisement of additional study abroad scholarship resources<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"infoBox col-sm-12 col-lg-12  grayBox\" style=\"float: none; margin: 0 auto;\"><div class=\"boxTitle\">Scholarship Reports<\/div><div class=\"boxContent\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"text-align: center\">Scholarship reports can be found here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/international\/itzn\/statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/international\/itzn\/statistics\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><div id=\"t1451076193\" title=\"<strong>International Risk Assessment<\/strong>\" class=\"content\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<h3>Committee Charge<\/h3>\n<p>The International Risk Assessment Committee reviews all sponsored international locations where Â鶹´«Ã½ has sponsored activities.\u00a0 The committee will assess health, safety and security at each location. The charge of committee is to review, assess and make recommendations to the President\u2019s Cabinet as it relates to potential and real risks in locations of Â鶹´«Ã½\u2019s international activities. Committee meetings occur on a monthly basis, unless a situation warrants an ad-hoc meeting.<\/p>\n<\/div><div id=\"t1451076194\" title=\"<strong>International Students<\/strong>\" class=\"content\" tabindex=\"0\">\n<h3>Committee Charge<\/h3>\n<p>The Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the College, via the Provost, with a focus on strategies that enhance the experiences of all international students and scholars at Â鶹´«Ã½ of New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>The committee will&#8230;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Identify ways to improve international student and scholar experiences.
