The Center encourages ALL students to drop in or make an appointment. Well-trained writing consultants guide students through the writing process and help them become independent writers over time. Under \u201cWriting the Paper,\u201d click on \u201cArgument\u201d and\/or \u201cThesis Statements\u201d when you view\u00a0www.unc.edu\/depts\/wcweb\/handouts\/index.html<\/p>\n<p>Colorado State University\u2019s online writing resources provide an <strong>example of a student\u2019s argumentative essay<\/strong> entitled \u201cLandscaping that Makes Sense for the West.\u201d The \u201cvirtual tour\u201d of the student\u2019s essay begins with an analysis of the student\u2019s claim, reasoning, evidence, and counter-argument. The tour ends with an <strong>assessment of the student\u2019s effectiveness in making the argument<\/strong> and urges the reader to arrive at a claim based on the student\u2019s argument. The essay can be used as a demonstration of argumentative writing which in turn provides a greater understanding of thesis paper writing.
