They will also be posted to the Faculty Assembly website. Timeline: Fall 2009. (2) Freeing up Wednesdays: Attempts will be made to clear the middle of the day on Wednesday from teaching responsibilities to facilitate committee meetings and open discussion forums. The tentative timeline for this is Fall 2010 as the problem of science lab space remains unsolved. (3) Faculty Room/Lounge: Attempts will be made to secure a space that can be utilized by faculty as a lunch room and/or a space to congregate for social and scholarly events. The tentative timeline for this item is the 2009/2010 academic year. (4) Faculty Assembly Webpage Improvements: The website will be redesigned in order to become more user-friendly. The location of and navigation to the page will be clarified, and a counter might be added to track the number of hits. Tentative timeline: Fall 2009. Other potential ideas regarding FAEC: (1) Spread responsibilities across FAEC membership. (2) Share responsibilities of running the various Faculty Assembly meetings. (3) Create a structure for meetings with President and other administrators. (4) Have FAEC sit in front of Faculty Assembly during meetings. Orientation for New Faculty August 2009 (1) A three-day orientation is currently being planned for incoming (new) faculty members. (2) The Faculty Resource Center is compiling descriptions of various committees and organizations across campus and plan to post them to an orientation website. Proposed Outline for September Faculty In-Service (1) Introduce New Faculty: Conveners or Deans could stand and introduce new faculty members. (2) FAEC Report: Outline the Concrete Steps above? (3) Issues before the Faculty A. ARC: Policy regarding Plagiarism B. AFT/Administration: Online Course Evaluations C. Discussion of proposed switch from 128 to 120 credits (related to General Education?) D. Graduate Programs (how to count these courses in-load) G. Online Courses H. Open Forums on Various Issues before the Faculty (a new format for discussion) LUNCH (4) Break-out sessions in convening groups or units. Communication with Administrators regarding Proposed Policy Changes (1) Shared governance of the college means that the FAEC, Faculty Assembly, and Administrators do not work independently of each other. (2) It is suggested that the Provost needs an articulated rationale for policy changes. This rationale should include the goals of a particular change, identification of constituencies, and a timeline for feedback and the decision-making process. Proposals should come to the FAEC first. They are then passed on to the Faculty Assembly directly or are processed through ARC.
