The Provosts Council has included 2 more faculty members (Roark Atkinson and Aaron Lorenz). Ken McMurdy will be leading the Subcommittee on Shared Governance. The Provost has charged the Task Force on Academic Excellence and Engagement. Ebola: Some mis-information has been disseminated on the campus. Donna Singer and Debbi Lukacsko are aware of the incorrect information being disseminated and have addressed it. They are meeting today (with HR) to finalize information to be disseminated and will be posted via Daily Digest. Campus emergency and threats: President Rainforth will be meeting with Donna Singer who will put together a protocols document and mobile app regarding responses in emergency situations. Reports from the ARC, Gen Ed Task Force, and GECCo are on the FA website. Delineating the purview of the AFT and FA: issues of workloads, working conditions, and personnel procedures, etc., fall under the AFT. Everything else is FA. Faculty members are encouraged to participate in both the AFT and FA. The President and Provost cannot join the FA meeting today, as they are meeting with representatives from the Standard & Poors. Approval of the minutes of the 9/24/14 FA meeting Faculty Assembly voted to approve the FA minutes from 9/24/14. FA/FAEC agenda for the year (decision item) was approved (please see the 'Agendas' document at HYPERLINK "http://www.ramapo.edu/fa/minutes/" http://www.ramapo.edu/fa/minutes/) Motion #1: To accept the report of the FAEC summarizing dispositions of faculty comments and suggestions from the September 2014 Faculty Assembly meeting Vote: 89% Yes; 4% No; and 8% Abstain Motion #1 is approved The Task Force on Academic Excellence and Engagement (refer to the 'Committee Reports' document at HYPERLINK "http://www.ramapo.edu/fa/minutes/" http://www.ramapo.edu/fa/minutes/) Eric Karlin introduced the Task Force, membership (6 faculty members), and its Charge. The members are: Eric Karlin (TAS), Jason Hecht (ASB), Ruma Sen (CA); Lisa Cassidy (SSHGS); Kristen Kenneavy (SSHS); and Roark Atkinson (FAEC). The Task Force is charged with developing a White Paper that puts forward a viable, integrated solution to the following items: Accreditation issues caused by the CEC; Transfer credit issues related to our practice of accepting three credit courses as equivalents to four credit courses; The revenue (or lack of revenue) issue created by the current work-load given to science faculty who teach labs; The perceived inequities in current (and potentially future) teaching loads; Scheduling and space issues created by one and two day a week classes; Appropriateness of class scheduling for facilitation of student learning, particularly in 100 and 200 level courses; The perception of low academic rigor and lack of flexibility within the curriculum; The low level of academic engagement demonstrated by our students The Provost suggested that the Task Force present its White Paper in January 2015. The Task Force will try its best to meet the deadline, but, in light of the huge amount of tasks and data involved and not yet received, more time may be needed. Faculty members brought up several issues relating to data collection methods and that the Task Force should also gather the views and opinions of students. The Task Force promised that they will look into these matters. Professor Karlin also stressed that the Task Force is functioning based on transparency and, therefore, plans to provide periodic updates on its progress as well as to receive feedback from faculty members. The FA approved the following motions that relate to the Task Force on Academic Excellence and Engagement: Motion # 2: To accept the following model for the role of the Faculty Assemblys interaction with the Task Force on Academic Excellence and Engagement: The Task Force will meet periodically with the Faculty, to update faculty with their progress, and to solicit input and feedback. The Task Force will present their White Paper to the Faculty Assembly (ideally at the Jan. 2015 Conference, pending timely delivery of data to the Task Force), which will document the issues as they exist, and possible solutions. The Faculty will vote to accept or reject the White Paper. If several different solutions are presented, faculty will rank the different scenarios. The White Paper, once approved by the Faculty Assembly, will be submitted to the Provost Vote: 97% Yes; 2% No; and 1% Abstain Motion #2 is approved Motion # 3: In order to address concerns by the Administration that the CEC is not fully implemented, and to deliver towards Goal 1 of the Strategic Plan, the Faculty Assembly requests that the Deans shall review all syllabi of courses that should have a CEC, and confirm that the CEC is present and tied to course learning outcomes in all such syllabi, consistent with the ARC Academic and Curricular Guidelines Manual. For courses that do not have these statements regarding the CEC, Deans will follow up with the pertinent faculty members to ensure compliance in all Fall 2014 courses, and in each subsequent semester. Faculty members debated whether it is appropriate to have the Deans review course syllabi. While many raised the fact that conveners do not have authority over their fellow faculty members, and it is the Deans purview to review course syllabi, some also queried whether the motion may empower the Deans/Administration to interfere with academic freedom. Vote: 81% Yes; 10% No; 8%Abstain Motion # 3 is approved New business and announcements: Reminder: please submit announcements in the form of a power-point slide to HYPERLINK "mailto:faec@ramapo.edu" faec@ramapo.edu Bischoff Award ceremony today (3pm York Rm; recipient, Kristin Kenneavy) Reports from committees, and the AEE task force charge, are on the FA Agendas webpage - http://www.ramapo.edu/fa/minutes/ James Hoch: Poet and fiction-writer (Charles Baxter) coming to Ramapo on 10/20 Faculty Development Day on 10/22 !2LMabc ) * + m n ȽеȽwwoog\hP/4hIKUOJQJhR OJQJhEv.OJQJh$OJQJhmOJQJhSOJQJhP/4OJQJhIKUhIKUOJQJhIKUOJQJh h"|OJQJhLGOJQJh hLGOJQJh"|OJQJh h>OJQJh h}5OJQJh h>5OJQJh hLG5OJQJ!!2Mbc, o P $ & F1$7$8$H$a$gd$$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gdP/4$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gd7$1$7$8$H$a$gdIKU$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gdIKU$1$7$8$H$a$gd m$ q C \ p 9 = N O P Q ͽͽŽ͵ͥͥyq͵hR OJQJhIKUhEv.OJQJh hmOJQJh7hIKUOJQJh$h$OJQJh OJQJh$OJQJhSOJQJhEv.OJQJhqWOJQJhIKUOJQJhP/4hIKUOJQJ)hP/4hP/4B*OJPJQJnH phtH hP/4hP/4OJQJ)P Q x:QRSTqqq$1$7$8$H$^a$gd$$ & F a$gd$m$ $^a$gd$$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gd$$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gdIKU$1$7$8$H$a$gdEv.$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gdIKU$1$7$8$H$^a$gdIKU #$STuvwx~"&.:@CDGPQRVW⽯xlxlxlxclxlx[Ph h$OJQJhEv.OJQJhd=5OJQJhBCh$5OJQJh$5OJQJh$6OJPJQJh+h$6OJPJQJh$OJPJQJh$>*OJPJQJh+h$>*OJPJQJh$h$OJQJh h YOJQJjh h YOJQJUh$OJQJh hmOJQJh hIKUOJQJTUVWiy)$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gd/$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gd/$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gdBCgdBC$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gd"|$1$7$8$H$^a$gd$W &)ELehix,qwxyyy˻˻óëˣh/h/OJQJh/OJQJhSOJQJhAOJQJh$OJQJhY OJQJhBCOJQJhmOJQJh h YOJQJjh h YOJQJUh hmOJQJ< ()>@S_ks!;fn:;EGºʲ²𪲪Œ~tfh+h"|6OJPJQJh"|OJPJQJh+h"|>*OJPJQJh$hBCOJQJhMhY OJQJh3 OJQJhMOJQJhR OJQJhquOJQJh$OJQJhY OJQJhVOJQJh/hMOJQJh/h/OJQJhSOJQJh/OJQJ%)!;Vw)*Pn$ & F dxa$gdNm$$dxa$gdNm$$ & F dxa$gdMm$$ & Fdxa$gdMm$$ & Fdxa$gd"|m$ $a$gds $^a$gds$1$7$8$H$a$gd$$ & F1$7$8$H$a$gdM vw()*0489=DOPefgrswl\QF<h"|OJPJQJh"|>*OJPJQJhR6OJPJQJhrhr56OJPJQJhr5OJPJQJhrhN56OJPJQJh q5OJPJQJhd=5OJPJQJhrhr5OJPJQJhs5OJPJQJhN6OJPJQJhMh"|6OJPJQJhM6OJPJQJho%h"|6OJPJQJhnhs6OJQJh"|6OJPJQJPfg;]tubrd$ & F1$a$gdQm$ $ & F1$a$gd $ & F1$7$8$H$a$gdQ$1$7$8$H$^a$gdR $ & F xa$gdRm$$ & F xa$gdQm$$px^pa$gd"|m$$x^a$gdRm$ $xa$gdRm$$ & F dxa$gdNm$ s%4ERS9:;ACEJLNQRSU\ƹƯzlzl^z^hRh q5OJPJQJhRh9L5OJPJQJhRhR5OJPJQJhR5OJPJQJhRhs5OJPJQJhQhR6OJPJQJhQOJPJQJhQhQOJPJQJhsOJPJQJh9L6OJPJQJh q6OJPJQJh"|6OJPJQJh4_h"|6OJPJQJ \]tuzaby " * K ĹϮ~Ϲvkvcv[h OJQJh YOJQJh h OJQJhR OJQJheOJQJ!hQhQ0JB*OJQJphjhQhQOJQJUhROJQJh heOJQJhQhQOJQJhQheOJQJhQOJQJh hmOJQJhRhR5OJPJQJhRhR56OJPJQJb+ L M $1$^a$gd $ & F1$a$gd $ & F1$a$gd K L M h heOJQJh h OJQJ.:pdD/ =!"#$% j 666666666vvvvvvvvv666666>6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~ OJPJQJ_HmH nH sH tH D`D ;/NormalCJ_HaJmH nHsH tHDA D Default Paragraph FontRiR 0 Table Normal4 l4a (k ( 0No List @@@ B List Paragraph ^m$6U`6 0 Hyperlink >*B*phPK![Content_Types].xmlN0EH-J@%ǎǢ|ș$زULTB l,3;rØJB+$G]7O٭V$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
