Leading NJ agriculture sectors include nursery and greenhouse plants ($444.8 million), fruits and vegetables ($462.9 million), and field crops ($31.6 million). This minor in Plant Studies prepares students for further study or career in the areas of food production, ornamental plant care, landscape design, sustainable agriculture 9farm, nursery, garden, park, golf course, etc.) management, and plant science education.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Outcomes of the Minor <\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<p><strong>Goal 1.<\/strong> Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge on the biology of plants and the roles of plants in agriculture, society and the environment<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Outcome 1:\u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 Identify the features of plant structures involved in cellular respiration, photosynthesis, reproduction and growth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Outcome 2:\u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0Describe how plants interact and contribute to their environment through plant water relations, carbon allocation, nutrient cycling, and biotic\/abiotic adaptations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal 2.<\/strong> Communicate effectively in oral and written formats on scientific findings of plants<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Outcome 1:\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0Be able to formulate testable hypotheses, design experiments, gather and present the data<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Requirements of the Minor <\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<ol>\n<li>Students are required to take 5 courses\u00a0(lecture and lab co-requisites count as one course)\u00a0to complete this minor.<\/li>\n<li>At least 1\/2 of the courses\u00a0fulfilling a minor must be distinct from the student\u2019s major. That is, three of the five courses \u00a0(lecture and lab co-requisites count as one course)\u00a0required for a minor cannot be used towards fulfillment of major requirements. A school core does not need to be completed for a minor. Minors are open to students regardless of school affiliation.<\/li>\n<li>Not all courses are offered each semester.
