This program is jointly offered by 麻豆传媒 of New Jersey and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Science–School of Health Related Programs (Rutgers-SHRP).听 Our Medical Imaging Science major is designed for students who would like to train in the fields of cardiac/vascular sonography and听diagnostic medical sonograhy.听 These health care professionals will be trained to work alongside physicians and other professionals in the diagnosis and care of patients.

Students must complete 96 credits, including General Education requirements and a preprofessional core.听 They then can be admitted to a professional program at Rutgers-SHRP.听 The Medical Imaging Science professional program consists of 4 academic semesters (up to 18 months) or full time study in one of four areas of specialization.听 Upon completion, students receive a joint B.S. Degree from Rutgers-SHRP and 麻豆传媒, and qualify to declare a minor in Biology.

Concentrations in:

Dual Certification in Cardiac and Vascular听Sonography
Cardiac Sonographers use ultrasound technology to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. 听Working under the direction of a physician, cardiac sonographers are trained in diagnostic procedures, data analysis and documentation and operation of state of the art equipment.

Vascular sonographers use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment and other forms of non-invasive testing to detect the presence of arterial diseases that can cause stroke, renal failure, gangrene, amputation, and aortic aneurysms and other life-threatening venous diseases that can lead to pulmonary embolism or morbid conditions caused by flood clots, varicose veins, and non-healing ulcerations.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Sonographers are highly skilled professionals qualified by education to provide patient services using diagnostic techniques under the supervision of a licensed Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy. 听Sonographers are trained in abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological and neonatal neurosonography ultrasound. using the most advanced ultrasound equipment..

• Application for this program is normally made by January 15 for admission the following fall.听 Applications received beyond this deadline will be considered if enrollment capacity in the major has not been reached.听 A minimum GPA of 2.85 is required and a minimum grade of B- in both Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2.

Program goals and Student Learning Outcomes for Medical Imaging Science

Upon completion of the Medical Imaging Science program, graduates will be able to:

• Obtain, review, and integrate pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results
• Perform appropriate non-invasive procedures and record anatomic, pathologic, and/or physiologic data for interpretation by a physician
• Record, analyze, and process diagnostic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician
• Exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of sonographic and/or other noninvasive diagnostic services
• Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients and colleagues
• Act in a professional and ethical manner
• Provide patient education related to medical ultrasound and/or other diagnostic techniques, and promote principles of good health
• Develop and cultivate the confidence and responsibility needed to perform as a competent sonographer
• Understand and recognize the importance of adaptability
• Implement and perform diagnostic procedures adhering to acceptable departmental, institutional, governmental and professional standards
• Encompass strategies that assure professional development at a level of clinical practice consistent with acceptable standards
• Establish values and attitudes congruent with professional standards and ethics
• Demonstrate awareness of and operate within the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer鈥檚 scope of practice

1. Transfer students who have 48 or more credits accepted at the time of transfer are waived from the courses marked with a (W) below.听 Waivers do not apply to Major requirements.
2. Double counting between General Education and Major may be possible.听 Check with your advisor to see if any apply.
3. Writing Intensive Requirement (five courses): 听two writing intensive courses in the general education curriculum are required: Critical Reading and Writing and Studies in the Arts and Humanities the other three courses are taken in the major.
