This program is jointly offered by Âé¶¹´«Ã½ of New Jersey and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Science–School of Health Related Programs (Rutgers-SHRP).Ìý Our Medical Imaging Science major is designed for students who would like to train in the fields of cardiac/vascular sonography andÌýdiagnostic medical sonograhy.Ìý These health care professionals will be trained to work alongside physicians and other professionals in the diagnosis and care of patients.
Students must complete 96 credits, including General Education requirements and a preprofessional core.Ìý They then can be admitted to a professional program at Rutgers-SHRP.Ìý The Medical Imaging Science professional program consists of 4 academic semesters (up to 18 months) or full time study in one of four areas of specialization.Ìý Upon completion, students receive a joint B.S. Degree from Rutgers-SHRP and Âé¶¹´«Ã½, and qualify to declare a minor in Biology.
Dual Certification in Cardiac and VascularÌýSonography
Cardiac Sonographers use ultrasound technology to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. ÌýWorking under the direction of a physician, cardiac sonographers are trained in diagnostic procedures, data analysis and documentation and operation of state of the art equipment.
Vascular sonographers use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment and other forms of non-invasive testing to detect the presence of arterial diseases that can cause stroke, renal failure, gangrene, amputation, and aortic aneurysms and other life-threatening venous diseases that can lead to pulmonary embolism or morbid conditions caused by flood clots, varicose veins, and non-healing ulcerations.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Sonographers are highly skilled professionals qualified by education to provide patient services using diagnostic techniques under the supervision of a licensed Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy. ÌýSonographers are trained in abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological and neonatal neurosonography ultrasound. using the most advanced ultrasound equipment..
